Special Events Internship

A great city deserves a great public television station—one that is capable of delivering community-building programs and services as the voice and the platform for its region.
We broadcast on three digital channels to an average of 450,000 homes each week. KCPT serves 913,280 TV households in the Kansas City market within a 60-mile broadcast radius.

Department Description
KCPT’s Public Information and Special Events department produces community events that promote and support KCPT in its mission: Kids On Ice in February, the KCPT Appraisal Fair in April, Oyster Royster in May, and TV Dinner in August, among others.

Internship Description
• Assist the Special Events director and vice president in various aspects
• Assist with planning, promotion and publicity of events
• Assist with research, reporting and data analysis
• Respond to employee and vendor questions and requests
• File documents and scheduling meetings
• Perform related duties and special projects as assigned

Skills Preferred
• Self-starter capable of working independently
• Excellent oral and written skills
• Excellent skills using Microsoft Office applications, including Microsoft Access
• Experience working with both PC and Mac operating systems
• Excellent customer service skills
• Project management skills
• An understanding of event planning, promotion and publicity
• Major in Hospitality, Event Planning, Marketing and Communications

KCPT Intern Requirements
• Open only to students enrolled in an accredited college or university
• Hours per week are negotiable, though we prefer interns who can work five half days or two to three 8-hour days per week (M-W-F, T/Th, etc.)
• Prefer interns who can commit to working at the major events (e.g., evening/weekend)
• We will work with schools for students wishing to receive credit, although receiving credit for the internship is not required
• Internships are unpaid
